Abstract

This article examines the identification and scholarly analysis of selected Hadith references in al-Sharʿ al-Ṣarīḥ fī Sharḥ Mishkāt al-Maṣābīḥ, a contemporary Pashto commentary by Mawlānā Muḥammad Ziyāʾ al-Ḥaq. Although the commentator draws upon a wide range of Hadith sources, including the Ṣiḥāḥ al-Sittah, this study focuses specifically on four selected references: Kanz al-ʿUmmāl, Musnad al-Bazzār, Musnad Aḥmad, and Jāmiʿ Maʿmar ibn Rāshid. The study first introduces the scholarly significance of these sources and then analyzes the ways in which the commentator employs them in explaining the traditions of Mishkāt al-Maṣābīḥ. Selected examples demonstrate that these sources are used not merely for citation, but also for clarifying ambiguous expressions, presenting additional narrations and supporting evidence, explaining chains of transmission, strengthening theological and juristic arguments, and substantiating preferred legal positions. The study concludes that these selected Hadith references play a significant role in the commentator’s explanatory and analytical methodology and contribute substantially to the hadith-based, juristic, and evidentiary character of al-Sharʿ al-Ṣarīḥ.
