Abstract

In the modern era, the world has become a global village, with people from diverse cultures connected through social media. The role and impact of social media in societies are undeniable. In this age of digitalization, social networks have emerged as powerful tools for change. If used correctly and positively, social media can bring about countless benefits in a short amount of time. However, a sad reality is that current social media platforms often promote character assassination, heartbreak, misrepresentation, obscenity, and social evils in Islamic societies. The Western influences that accompany these issues have become a major challenge for the Muslim Ummah. Islam, however, provides a comprehensive code of conduct for the constructive and positive use of social media, which can help address these social problems. In this regard, the life of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) offers an exemplary guide. He (ﷺ) consistently taught the importance of guarding our tongues, avoiding hurtful speech, and refraining from lying, slander, and obscenity. By adhering to the Prophet’s (ﷺ) teachings in the realm of social media, we can promote moral values, foster a constructive environment, and contribute to a more positive and respectful online community.
