Hadith is the second primary source of Islamic law and plays a fundamental role in understanding and applying the teachings of the Qur’an. The science of Hadith Dirayah provides essential principles for examining, verifying, and critically evaluating Hadith reports. This article discusses the need and significance of these principles in preserving the authenticity and integrity of Prophetic traditions. It highlights the importance of isnad (chain of transmission) in distinguishing authentic reports from weak or fabricated narrations. The study also explains the role of early Muslim scholars in developing systematic methods of narrator criticism, authentication, and textual analysis. Furthermore, it examines the importance of Jarh wa Ta‘dil in protecting the Hadith from errors, fabrications, and unreliable transmitters. The article demonstrates that Hadith Dirayah has played a vital role in safeguarding Islamic teachings from distortion and misunderstanding. It concludes that adherence to the principles of Hadith criticism is essential for the reliable transmission, proper understanding, and preservation of the Prophetic Sunnah.
